The Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro is a powerful, well-built Android tablet designed for productivity and entertainment, but should you get one?

Released in March 2025, the tablet comes in four colours: blue, green, gray, and grey. If you're confused, grey is just the lighter... well, grey.

You also get two storage options: 8GB RAM and 256GB storage (priced at RM2,499), and for those who need larger storage, 12GB RAM and 512GB storage (priced at RM2,699).

I had the opportunity to test out the gray variant with 12GB RAM and 512GB of storage space. Here's my take on whether you should get the Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro or not.

The design, while generic, is easily one of the Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro's strongest points

At 6.5mm thin and just over 500g, it feels light in the hand yet substantial enough not to veer into "cheap" territory.

Crafted from aluminium alloy, the tablet's squared-off edges lend it a modern, premium vibe almost similar to that of an iPad Pro.

The Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro is easy to carry and is perfect for any student or businessperson on the go.

For the display, Xiaomi has gone with an 11.2-inch LCD panel, pushing a high 3200x2136 resolution with a smooth 144Hz refresh rate

It's bright, vibrant, and sharp, making everything from Netflix to spreadsheets look fantastic. Outdoor visibility is solid too, thanks to a peak brightness of around 800 nits.

What stands out here is the matte glass option. It's a smart touch — reducing glare without overly dulling the image, and giving stylus users a slightly grippier, paper-like surface.

It's not just a design choice; it adds genuine usability. That said, it's still an LCD panel, so if you're used to the infinite blacks and contrast of OLED, you might notice the difference during dark scenes. But for most people, especially in brighter environments, it's more than good enough.

Performance-wise, the Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro is powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip, handling multitasking, media consumption, and even more demanding creative apps with ease

Swapping between apps is snappy, games run smoothly, and HyperOS 2 (based on Android 15) keeps the experience feeling cohesive and clean.

Xiaomi's decision to avoid unnecessary software extras pays off here because you're getting a focused, stable tablet experience with some thoughtful tablet-first touches.

While the software is reliable, the multitasking UI still has room to mature.

Split-screen works well enough, but moving between windows or dragging content across apps isn't quite as seamless as on some competitors. It's a minor quirk, and for most casual users or students, it won't be a huge issue, but power users might wish for more polish.

The Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro comes with an 8,850mAh battery that lasts about 10 to 14 hours on a single charge

I used the tablet to stream YouTube and Netflix, send and reply emails, browse websites, and do some light editing on Canva and Capcut without any issues.

And when you do need to charge, fast-charging support gets you back to 100% without much downtime.

In short, that's impressive stamina for a tablet this powerful.

While the Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro ticks most of the boxes, there are a couple of limitations worth mentioning

It doesn't offer cellular connectivity, so you'll need to stay tethered to Wi-Fi or use hotspotting when on the go.

There's also no SD card slot, which could be a drawback if you plan to store lots of large files locally.

Also, the Xiaomi Focus Pen and 7 Pro Focus Keyboard are priced at RM399 and RM799, respectively. Yes, you would need to spend an additional RM1,198 for both devices.

And while the display is sharp and smooth, it's not OLED. So if you're a cinephile looking for deep blacks and rich contrast, you might notice the difference.

That said, for everything from Netflix to Google Docs, it holds up remarkably well.

For casual users, the Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro is a well-rounded device that delivers consistently where it matters: performance, battery life, build quality and display clarity

It's an easy recommendation for students, hybrid workers, creatives, or anyone who wants a capable tablet with the flexibility to handle productivity tasks.

No, it will not replace your high-end laptop. However, with the additional accessories, it comes surprisingly close to doing that.
