They have a lot in store for us this year, from smart home innovations to televisions with up to 8K resolution.

According to Jong-Hee (JH) Han, Vice Chairman, CEO, and Head of DX (Device eXperience) Division at Samsung Electronics, Samsung is on a mission to empower technology and enhance people's lives.

In light of this mission, here are four things Samsung introduced at the 2023 Unbox & Discover event:

1. Better smart home experiences with SmartThings

SmartThings is Samsung's initiative to normalise tech around the house. There are five core foundations, and they aim to provide unparalleled convenience for users to set up their smart homes.

These core foundations consist of:

- Instant Connection: Allows users to connect their devices to SmartThings in just one step for seamless efficiency

- Automated Connection: Enables automatic connection between Samsung devices without the need of a manual setup

- Hub Everywhere: Makes IoT (Internet of Things) setup more accessible through a built-in sensor in each Samsung product

- Expansive Compatibility:  Provides more accessibility by enabling devices from any brand to work together with SmartThings through MATTER, the Home Connectivity Alliance and the International IoT communication standard

- Security: Encrypts all information from connected devices through the new Samsung Knox Vault hardware chip that ensures safety and security for users

2. Eco-conscious practices and innovative tech that put sustainability first

Samsung aims to not only build great products, but also create sustainable ones that contribute to building a healthier planet for future generations.

To do this, Samsung is turning carbon dioxide (CO2) into recycled materials, using fewer materials, and upcycling products and packaging. In fact, most of their TVs, monitors, and remote controls in 2023 were developed using recycled resin, made up of at least 50% recycled materials, as reported by Samsung Newsroom Malaysia.

Aside from that, they also developed AI Energy Mode to monitor energy consumption and usage patterns.

3. A new premium Neo QLED 8K display, the QN900C

The QN900C is Samsung's latest Neo QLED 8K TV that is packed with innovative technologies such as Auto HDR Remastering and 8K AI upscaling. The smart TV is 98 inches and provides colour reproduction and details akin to a true cinematic experience that you can access from your living room.

Design-wise, the QNC900C will feature Samsung's signature Infinity One design with a metal finish, and the laser slim design of a past model, the S90C

4. Refined 2023 Odyssey gaming monitors

Samsung unveiled the Odyssey Neo G9, the world's first 57-inch dual UHD resolution monitor, as well as the slightly smaller 49-inch Odyssey OLED G9.

These new gaming monitors from Samsung aim to provide 8K resolution gameplay with high picture quality and refined user experience.

Additionally, these new gaming monitors will also feature gamer-centric features such as Game Bar, which gives users a dedicated Mini Map Zoom and Virtual Aim Point to assist them when they're gaming.
