On 2 April, Samsung Malaysia Electronics officially announced the arrival of its highly anticipated Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge smartphones in Malaysia. With the new Galaxy S6 series, Samsung has finally given us the smartphones that looks and feels worthy of its premium price tag, but the design of its new phones, especially Galaxy S6 (the one without the curved screen) is quite similar to that of the iPhone

Both of the new phones are made entirely of metal and glass: the cheesy and cheap-feeling plastics that have dominated Samsung’s products for years are no where to be found. This change can’t be overstated: Samsung finally has made flagship products that look and feel like they are worth the premium price tag they command. The flat S6 will be available in white black, gold, and blue, while the S6 Edge can be hand in white, black, gold, and green.

The design is strikingly similar to the iPhone 6 in many places, and the features that Samsung did focus its efforts on are all things the iPhone has had for years. Look at the S6 from certain angles and you’d immediately think it’s an iPhone. Put your thumb on the home key and the phone unlocks almost instantly, just like an iPhone. Even the camera mount protrudes out from the rear of the phone, preventing the S6 from lying flat on a table, just like an iPhone 6. (The flat S6 looks like the lovechild of an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 6, while the S6 Edge is a little more distinctive.)

Both the Galaxy S6 models are made from glass and metal. While the usage of glass isn't entirely new, their execution on both the Galaxy S6 gives them a stunning look. S6 Edge in particular is by far the finest looking smartphone that Samsung has ever built!

The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge both have a metal frame and Corning Gorilla Glass 4, the toughest glass to date, wrapped around the front and back. While it can survive some high drops, it's not entirely immune to damages, as this drop-test video demonstrates:

Coming back to the announcement, Malaysia is one of the first few countries in Southeast Asia to witness the official arrival of the two smartphones. Both the phone's official price is inclusive of GST.

Equipped with a vivid and fast front and rear camera, both Galaxy S6 and S6 edge comes with a new 'Quick Launch' feature that gives users fast and direct access to the camera from any screen in just 0.7 seconds by simply double clicking the home key button

Samsung also announced Samsung Malaysia's pick-up service

What the service does is offer a personalised pick-up service for the new Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge if there’s no Samsung service centre near you, the owner. And if that’s not attractive enough, the service will be offered for free to all customers who have bought the Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 edge.

To arrange for one, all you need to do is call the 24-hour dedicated careline at 1800 88 7799. The service will only be available for the 2 flagship devices. The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge will be available in Malaysia from 17th April onwards with 32GB storage option.
