If you're looking to refine your listening experience, these premium earbuds from Samsung could be worth your while

Boasting a comfortable fit, premium features, and popping colours — the Samsung Galaxy Buds2 Pro can definitely be your perfect listening companion. But there are a few things you should know about first.

Here's my review!

First, let's have a look at what you get out of the box

Out of the box, the Galaxy Buds2 Pro comes with the pair of earbuds, two extra silicone ear tips of varying sizes, and a USB-C cable. The review unit I got was the Bora Purple version, but it's also available in Graphite and White.

Feature-wise, the earbuds pack:

- 24-bit Hi-Fi audio (Only for compatible Samsung Galaxy smartphones)
- Advanced intelligent Active Noise Cancellation (ANC)
- Voice Detect feature that switches the buds from ANC to Ambient mode when you're talking to someone
- Five hours of battery life with ANC on, eight hours of battery life with ANC off
- IPX7 water resistant
- Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity

The Galaxy Buds2 Pro have a 15% size reduction as compared to its predecessor, making them a comfortable fit and snug on the ears

Its smaller design makes it easier to carry and fits better in the ear. From my experience, even after using the earbuds for long hours, it doesn't feel like a nuisance around my ears.

Even if the default ear tips don't fit well in your ears, they give two extra silicone ear tips you can swap around with.

It connects seamlessly to devices but works best for Samsung Galaxy smartphones

Using the Galaxy Buds2 Pro, I realise that this is truly a listening device made for Samsung Galaxy smartphones.

Let me explain why.

For starters, its advertised Samsung seamless 24-bit Hi Fi codec can only be truly experienced by compatible Samsung devices.

Furthermore, it's equipped with an auto-switch function to swap which device you're using the Galaxy Buds2 Pro on, provided it's a Samsung device. It is a true wireless stereo (TWS) earbuds exclusively tailored for Samsung smartphone users.

Additionally, keep in mind that if you use an iOS device, you won't be able to access the custom touch control commands or ANC settings because they can only be accessed by the Galaxy Wearable app that is not available on the App Store.

That being said, it still has a lot of excellent features on its own

As expected, Samsung's intelligent ANC worked exceptionally well in numerous environments. From hectic working spaces to busy public transportation areas, I was able to immerse in my online podcasts as I commuted to the office on the LRT, with little to no sound interruptions from the outside world.

Furthermore, the earbuds also feature a two-way speaker setup and new three high Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) microphones that significantly improve voice quality when you're in calls. It also eliminates more exterior noises for people on the receiving end of the call.

My friends told me they were able to hear me clearly when I used the earbuds for our weekly Discord calls.

The Galaxy Wearable app is also very convenient for those using Android, especially Samsung users

As someone who does not use an Android device as his daily driver, I had to borrow my brother's phone to test out the app, and I have to say — it's pretty amazing.

The Galaxy Wearable app allows Android and Samsung users to manage their smartwatches and Bluetooth earphones. Through the app, you can do a number of things like manage your earbuds' touch controls, ANC, and even see its battery percentage.

You'll meet a lot of quality of life features on the app. For example, the equaliser settings help you choose what kind of sound you'd prefer to hear when you're using the earbuds ranging from Bass, Soft, Treble, Dynamic, and more!

This way, you can better adjust your preferred sound when you use the earbuds for optimal satisfaction.

There's also a feature called Earbud fit test which I found very handy. It measures whether your earbuds are accurately fitted into your ears. You can adjust them accordingly until you see a 'Good fit' prompt on both ears.

Personally, I loved the Voice detect feature the best

Essentially, Voice detect is something that will help you significantly if you're in a situation where you want to use the earbuds but need to talk to people simultaneously.

What it does is, it detects when you're speaking to another person and automatically lowers the audio volume for quick conversations. Moreover, it'll go back to your initial sound around 10 seconds after you stop talking.

#VERDICT — The Samsung Galaxy Buds2 Pro is a small premium device that delivers massive amount of benefits ranging from good sound quality, numerous quality of life features, and an aesthetic package, but is it for everyone?

If you own a Galaxy smartphone, then we can't recommend these earbuds enough, because you'll never be disappointed with its quality and exceptional features. Not to mention a dependable app and decent battery life.

However, if you own an iOS device or a different Android smartphone, it may be worth your while to explore different options as well, because some of the features on this RM899 premium earbuds will be locked for you.

The Samsung Galaxy Buds2 Pro is available to purchase now through Samsung's official store for RM899
