Apple's 'Scary Fast' launch event has concluded, bringing exciting new products for the Apple enthusiast
Apple has finally unveiled some entirely new Mac computers that feature the most recent iteration of the company's proprietary chip, the M3, which is the third edition of Apple's chips.
1. Apple's new M3 chips stole the show during the 'Scary Fast' event
The new series of CPUs consists of the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max chips, representing the 'first personal computer chips' developed using the more efficient 3-nanometer manufacturing process, according to Apple.
In addition to providing a 'quicker and more efficient CPU', this trio of chips includes an upgraded GPU that supports features like ray tracing, mesh shading, and dynamic caching, which optimises memory usage during tasks.
Apple's M3 chips offer a maximum of 128GB of unified memory, with the most potent M3 Max chip boasting an impressive 92 billion transistors, a 40-core GPU, and a 16-core CPU.
What this means is that new M3 chips will pack a punch and be power efficient at the same time.
2. The all-new 14-inch MacBook Pro comes with the M3 chip
Gone are the iconic Touch Bars of previous MacBook Pros and in go the physical keys.
The new 14-inch MacBook Pro comes equipped with the base M3 chip and starts at RM7,499. This new laptop replaces the 13-inch MacBook Pro with an M2 chip that Apple launched last year, offering performance that is up to 60% faster.
However, there are some downsides to this entry-level model: it comes with a modest 8GB of RAM and is available in only silver and space grey colour options.
3. The sexy, sleek Space Black 16-inch MacBook Pro gets the M3 Pro and M3 Max
For power users, Apple has offered the MacBook Pro with a more powerful chip, the M3 Pro and the top-of-the-line M3 Max. Aimed at professionals, the M3 Max is designed to handle the most extreme workflows with even more CPU and GPU cores, enormous unified memory and an advanced Media Engine.
It's also the only MacBook laptop that comes in the new Space Black colour.
The M3 Max-equipped MacBook Pro starts at RM14,799.
4) For home users, Apple has also introduced a new iMac
The updated 24-inch iMac will also be equipped with the new M3 chip, which Apple claims delivers double the performance compared to its M1-powered predecessor.
In addition to the new chip, the revamped iMac boasts a 4.5K Retina display with a wide colour gamut of over 1 billion colours, support for Wi-Fi 6E, and an enhanced 1080p webcam.
This iMac model also provides a maximum of 24GB of unified memory and is available in seven vibrant colours: green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver. Colour-coordinated accessories are included with the iMac, although they still feature Lightning connectors.
The iMac starts at RM6,299.
