It appears that TM has quietly begun to offer faster UniFi speed at 30Mbps and 50Mbps for residential customers in selected areas around Klang Valley.

For those with the need for speed, TM is now offering faster 30Mbps and 50Mbps Unifi options for residential use at selected locations. The plans were discovered by Amanz and TM is offering them as a bundled package with its HyppTV subscription.

The 30Mbps package will start from RM210.94 per month, which is cheaper than the VIP 20Mbps plan which retails at RM263.94

The base option with 30Mbps connection is going for RM210.94/month inclusive of GST. This lets you add-on a TV Pack of either HyppTV Aneka , Varnam or Ruby. If you want more channels, it will cost you RM242.74/month for its HyppTV Jumbo Package. To bump up from 30Mbps to 50Mbps, TM is offering the extra 20Mbps speed as an add-on upgrade at RM53/month on top of its base offering. So at the bare minimum, this calculates to RM263.94/month inclusive of GST. Not bad, considering the current VIP 20Mbps plan is also priced the same at RM263.94/month.

However should you upgrade, you won't be able to enjoy free calls, which has been part of the current Unifi packages

In general, there are indeed some differences between the existing 20Mbps packages and the new 30Mbps offerings. One of them is the existence of a speed upgrade for an extra RM53 per month to 50Mbps. For an additional amount of RM30.74, UniFi 30Mbps customers are also able to add a P1 ToGo Plan as part of their subscription. Other than that, the new 30Mbps packages also don’t come with free calls to fixed lines anymore, although there’s an optional Voice Pack add-on for that. These add-ons are indeed the first of their kind for UniFi.

If you look at the price, you’ll notice that free calls within fixed lines isn’t included like its standard Unifi VIP 5Mbps, 10Mbps and 20Mbps offering. By default, all domestic voice calls to both fixed and mobile numbers are charged at RM0.21/minute. For those who plan to talk a lot, you can add RM21.20/month for a voice pack which comes with 600 minutes of phone calls. When you used up your minutes, you can still continue to make free calls to fixed lines while calls to mobile numbers are charged at a lower flat rate of RM0.11/minute.

But before you rush out to upgrade, make sure that your residence is in a low-rise building and located in these selected areas:

According to the source, these new packages are only applicable at Bangsar, Damansara Utama, Kepong, Menara TM, Puchong, Serdang, Shah Alam and USJ Taipan for new subscribers only. Existing subscribers are not eligible for an upgrade and the 50Mbps service is limited to low-rise buildings only.

Malaysia still has a long way to go in regards to Internet speeds. In Singapore, their average Internet speed is around 30 Mbps whereas in Hong Kong, speeds average out around 54 Mbps.

Singapore is no# 10 on the list with an average internet speed of 30.7 megabits per second. It made it on the list of the top ten with a peak speed that is almost double the global average of 15.9 megabits per second. The country, according to Akamai’s report editor David Belson, Singapore with its high speed broadband and all the gadgets available there that go along with it perfectly is the ‘’tech-hub’’ of the world currently. Period!

Unlike their neighbors China just across the border, content censorship in HongKong is virtually non-existent and average peak speeds soar up to 54.1 megabits per second, undoubtedly making it No. 1 in the list of the top ten countries with the fastest internet. Again, unlike speeds just across their borders in China, that has the country ranked at No. 123 in the list of internet speeds; people in HongKong get good government back up in terms of infrastructure and connections to support their blazing fast internet, which would let you download any HD movie at around 4 minutes max.

In the United States, Google Fiber has been making headlines in many cities. With speeds of up to 1000 Mbps, one can download a HD movie in just 7 seconds...

Google Fiber is Google's fiber-to-the-premises service in the United States, providing broadband internet and cable television to a small and slowly increasing number of locations. Google Fiber offers three options: a free internet option, a 1 Gbit/s internet option, and an option including television service (in addition to the 1 Gbit/s internet). The internet service includes one terabyte of Google Drive service; the television service includes a two terabyte DVR in addition to the Google Drive. The DVR can record up to eight live television shows simultaneously. In addition, television service will also stream live program content on iPad and Android tablet computers.
