Called Bionic Reading, the feature on the Lumi News app was created using award-winning tech developed in Switzerland and is the first of its kind to be rolled out in Southeast Asia.

Bionic Reading transforms the way you consume information by strategically highlighting key parts of words to create a visual pathway for your eyes

Here's a sample of what the Bionic Reading feature looks like:

B
y emphasising key parts of words, Bionic Reading helps readers absorb information more efficiently, and reduce mental fatigue — no more skimming or re-reading. It's a designed method that aligns with how your brain naturally processes text, using fixation points that guide your eyes, reducing cognitive load and maximising comprehension. This means you can devour complex articles in a fraction of the time, retaining more information than ever before.

This new feature is Lumi's way of encouraging reading by offering a new experience, with users already returning with encouraging feedback

Shaun Lau, a university student with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), said that Bionic Reading has completely transformed the way he engages with text in a positive way.

"I used to struggle with long articles, constantly re-reading paragraphs because my mind would drift away.

"At first, I thought that Bionic Reading wouldn't make a difference, but once I started using it my eyes naturally followed the highlighted words, keeping me focused and helping me retain information faster. It's a total game changer — not just for studying, but for finally enjoying reading again," he said
