Lenovo is no stranger to offering great laptops for any situation
Lenovo offers an extensive range of laptops designed to meet the needs of diverse users. The Yoga series, in particular, stands out this year with its compelling combination of cutting-edge hardware and a slim, lightweight build. One of the most exciting models is the Yoga Pro 7i, specifically designed for aspiring creators or individuals seeking a stylish and potent laptop.
The Lenovo Yoga Pro 7i offers strong performance in a slim package
The Yoga Pro 7i comes equipped with a 13th Gen Intel i7 with 14 cores — six performance cores and eight efficiency cores — and 20 threads, which capable of boosting up to 5.0GHz. The graphics are powered by a gaming-grade Nvidia RTX 4050 5GB graphics processing unit (GPU). It comes installed with Windows 11 Home out of the box.
The powerhouse is supported by a soldered-on 16GB LPDDR5 RAM running at 5,200MHz. The downside to this is that it's impossible to upgrade the RAM modules.
The laptop also offers blazing-fast storage with a 512GB M.2 Gen 4 NVMe SSD, which can be upgraded down the line.
It's also powered by an integrated 73Wh battery, capable of running typical workloads for almost eight hours without being tethered to a wall socket. The Yoga Pro 7i also comes with a USB Type-C 140W charging brick, which fully charges the laptop in a mere two hours.
Right off the bat, we had to try out one of its iconic features
Yes, the Yoga Pro 7i is able to fold to extreme angles, and we managed to fold it to a complete 180 degrees. Even at this awkward angle, the screen's colours and images retain its vibrancy, showcasing the hallmark of an IPS panel. The chassis did not exhibit any signs of stress or flex.
Additionally, the top edge features an extended section in the middle, making it easy to open the lid. The updated version also boasts a larger 14.5-inch display, replacing the previous 14-inch one and adopting a 16:10 aspect ratio.
This is a useful feature to present whatever is on your screen to someone sitting directly next to you.
The Yoga Pro 7i also comes with a healthy amount of ports
The laptop's I/O department has seen an upgrade, featuring a dedicated HDMI 2.1 port in addition to two USB Type-C ports, with one supporting Thunderbolt 4.
Other connectivity options include a headphone and mic combo jack, as well as a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port. Similar to many of Lenovo's high-end notebooks, this model includes a dedicated switch located on the right edge, allowing users to easily turn off the webcam, positioned next to the power button.
When it comes to keyboards and trackpads, Lenovo is always one of the best
Lenovo has consistently delivered quality laptop keyboards, and the Yoga Pro 7i lives up to expectations. While it lacks a dedicated numeric keypad, it features the familiar keys with rounded bottoms. Typing on the keyboard provides a satisfying experience, characterised by swift and accurate input, thanks to the keys' ample travel and responsive feedback. Plus, the lack of deck flex contributes to its premium feel.
The keys come with white backlighting, allowing users to adjust brightness levels or activate it by pressing Fn + Spacebar. Also, there's an Auto function that automatically enables the backlight based on ambient light conditions.
The trackpad on the Yoga Pro 7i is generously sized for a laptop of its dimensions. Its glass finish enhances accuracy and smoothness in tracking, providing a seamless user experience. The dedicated left and right button clicks on the trackpad are responsive, further contributing to overall user satisfaction with the device's input capabilities.
In essence, typing on the Yoga Pro 7i is a treat, transforming everyday work into a special experience.
The display is vibrant, sharp, and buttery smooth
The screen is a treat for the eyes. The PureSight Pro 14.5-inch 3K (3072x1920) display offers ample visual real estate, facilitating increased productivity.
Thanks to the IPS panel, the colours are exceptionally vibrant, with contrasting hues popping off the screen. Plus, you can see the screen and its contents remain clear and detailed from any angle.
For professional editors, the laptop offers a cinema-quality 100% DCI-P3 colour space. This ensures that the displayed colours are more vibrant and true to life, making it ideal for projects that demand vivid colours and enhancing the visual experience for various types of content.
For gamers, the panel can also achieve a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. When coupled with the in-built RTX 4050 graphics card, you can expect a smooth gaming experience for titles such as VALORANT or DOTA 2.
The speakers also pack a solid punch
Surrounding the keyboard are the stereo speakers, providing a robust built-in sound system. These are powered by four 2W speakers optimised with Dolby Atmos Amplifier. The laptop can really push its speakers, filling our office with Drake's God Plan during our testing.
We also indulged in a couple of Netflix series on the laptop, and we can confidently say that it was a thoroughly enjoyable cinematic experience.
