Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) denied that the broadband speed in Malaysia was slow, saying that the result of researches on broadband speed differs when different methodologies were used.

The MCMC Said That Different Broadband Speeds Tests Use Different Methodologies To Measure Broadband Speeds
"Of late, a number of broadband speed tests have been conducted and publicised by various parties reflecting varying results," he said. Mohamed Sharil said, each broadband speed test was measured using different methodologies which resulted in differing outcomes.

The MCMC Did Admit The Need To Upgrade Broadband Speed And Quality And Have Taken Several Steps To Improve It
Sharil also said that MCMC recognised the need to upgrade broadband speed and quality and have been working towards that since 2010 through various initiatives.

Slow Internet Speed Is One Of Malaysia's Top Complaints According To The Federation of Malaysian Consumers Associations (Fomca)
Federation of Malaysian Consumers Associations (Fomca) secretary-general Datuk Paul Selvaraj said slow Internet connection was among the top grouses of consumers.
"Consumers sign up for pricey packages expecting fast, stable connectivity but on most occasions, the telco companies fail to deliver. Despite having highlighted the problem many times before, the telco companies have failed to respond," he said.
Commenting on the survey results, Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM)'s ICT and multimedia committee chairman Dr Neoh Vee Heng said its 2,678 members were generally concerned about the country's slow Internet speed, the unavailability of wireless and fibre connections, and the high cost of connectivity.
