I Tested The HONOR 400 Pro. Here's What Surprised Me Most
Hint: It's the battery.
I've been using the HONOR 400 Pro as my daily driver for just over a week, and the first thing that stands out is the battery
With a mammoth 6,000mAh capacity, it comfortably powers through two full days of moderate use. Even with heavier tasks like mobile gaming, 4K video shooting, and plenty of screen-on time for work and messaging, I was never reaching for the charger before bedtime.
When I did plug it in, the 100W wired charging got me from near-empty to full in under 40 minutes.
It's impressive and it feels like a return to sanity in an industry obsessed with ever-slimmer phones at the expense of endurance.
Also, for those wondering, the 400 Pro comes in Midnight Black, Tidal Blue and Lunar Grey. I had the chance to try out the latter.
The display is another standout. The 1.5K AMOLED screen is bright enough to cut through Malaysia's midday sun — literally peaking at 5,000 nits — with a silky-smooth 120Hz refresh rate that makes scrolling feel satisfying.
Inside, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset and 12GB of RAM keep everything running snappily.
Whether you're editing Instagram Stories, jumping into Mobile Legends, or toggling between work apps, it rarely breaks a sweat.
And then there's the camera. Or, more accurately, the cameras. The 200MP main sensor is a beast — photos are richly detailed, low-light performance is better than expected, and the AI Super Zoom genuinely captures crisp shots at a distance.
The 50MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom and OIS also pulls its weight.
For most users, this will easily be the most powerful camera setup they've had in a phone. Great for travel, food flatlays, and those post-gym selfies.
That said, there are areas where the HONOR 400 Pro makes small but noticeable compromises
The ultra-wide camera, while functional, underperforms against similarly priced rivals. Images lose sharpness at the edges, and colour consistency isn't always spot on.
It's also on the heavier side at 205g and is 8.1mm thick, which may be a deterring factor for those who like their phones light and pocketable.
And then there’s the price. At an estimated RM4,100, it's not cheap. You do get generous storage (512GB) and a suite of flagship specs, but some might feel that brand name alone doesn't justify the near-premium pricing.
If you're a young professional looking for a smartphone that can handle heavy multitasking, take excellent photos, and won't quit on you halfway through the day — all without the flagship price tag— the HONOR 400 Pro is an easy recommendation
It's not perfect, but for Malaysians seeking performance and practicality in one package, it comes close.
If you're thinking about picking one up, the pre-order period runs from 22 to 29 May, and HONOR is throwing in some pretty tempting freebies.
Buyers of the HONOR 400 Pro will receive a FREE Instax mini LiPlay and a 1-Year Extended Warranty (limited to pre-orders, while stocks last).
Meanwhile, the standard HONOR 400 comes with a FREE pair of HONOR CHOICE Active Noise Cancelling Headphones, plus the same extended warranty. Both models will be available in stores nationwide starting 30 May 2025.
