According to a press release from the e-hailing company, the updated fare calculating system is designed to improve the experience for both drivers and passengers.

Until now, tolls were either calculated separately or settled after the trip.

It was a system that left both sides to deal with awkward reconciliations.

Bolt says that nearly 30% of its Malaysian rides involve at least one toll, making the previous approach a persistent friction point

"Integrating toll fares directly into our ride calculations reflects our understanding of everyday driving challenges in Malaysia.

"We know that tolls are an essential part of the driving experience here, and by automating the process, we eliminate unnecessary guesswork for both partner drivers and passengers," said Afzan Lutfi, Bolt Malaysiaโ€™s general manager.๏ปฟ

From a tech standpoint, it's a relatively minor adjustment, but one with clear operational upside: fewer driver complaints, cleaner accounting, and no mid-ride toll disputes.

Bolt is positioning the feature as a subtle but meaningful improvement that reflects a more tailored approach to the Malaysian ride-hailing landscape.
