These 3 Malaysians Are Amongst The World's Most Influential Scientific Minds
They are all chemical engineering experts from the country.

Malaysia is home to 3 scientists included on Thomson Reuters' list of "The World's Most Influential Scientific Minds" for 2015, released on 14 January. Based on an analysis of over a decade of research paper citations among 21 general scientific fields, the distinction is meant to recognise scientists who are most cited by their peers.
The analysis, produced by the intellectual property and science wing of Thomson Reuters, made use of data sets tracking research paper citations. The three scientists from Malaysia, who are among some 3,000 highly cited researchers listed in the report, were selected by analysing citation data over a recent 11-year period and identifying those who published the greatest number of highly cited papers.
So who are they?
They are, namely:
1. Professor Dr Wan Ramli Wan Daud.
2. Professor Dr Siti Kartom Kamarudin.
3. Professor Dr Bassim H Hameed.

Professor Dr Wan Ramli Wan Daud
An authority on fuel cell technology, hydrogen energy and drying technology, Prof Wan Ramli is the Founding Director of The Fuel Cell Institute, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and the Professor of Chemical Engineering at the Department of Chemical & Process Engineering, Faculty of Engineering & Built Environment, UKM.
He pioneered fuel cell technology studies at UKM with the hope of producing indigenous fuel cells and hydrogen energy technology. The Fuel Cell Institute was established in 2005 as an independent research and development administrative unit of UKM.
He has published 839 articles including 275 articles in international journals, 339 articles in proceedings of international conferences and 225 articles in proceedings of national conferences. He has published 2 international research books, 2 national books and contributed 5 chapters in international research books and 5 chapters in national books.
Professor Dr Siti Kartom Kamarudin
A researcher at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Professor Siti Kartom's expertise is in the field of hydrogen energy and fuel cells, just like her colleague Professor Wan Ramli.
She was also among the 14 National Researchers who were recognised as the recipients of Malaysia’s Rising Star Award for obtaining the top 1% of the Highly Cited Papers published worldwide.
Professor Dr Bassim H Hameed
Named second time in the Thomson Reuters' list, Professor Dr Bassim, in the field of Reactor Engineering and Adsorption from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), is a recipient of three Sanggar Sanjung (Hall of Fame) awards for Research Product in 2003 and 2004 and USM Excellent Achievement Award in 2007 and 2011.
He has successfully supervised to completion the work of 3 postdoctoral fellows, 9 PhD, 24 MSc students and more than 50 final-year research projects.
Meanwhile, Prof Wan Ramli, who has a doctorate from University of Cambridge, considers this prestigious recognition as one of the most significant honours in his 36-year career as a lecturer in UKM
According to him, the Top Research Scientist Malaysia (TRSM) by Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) is good as it encourages Malaysian scientists to register in the Web of Science and SCOPUS databases and regularly update their citation data.
