National diving queen Pandelela Rinong made history when she became Malaysia's first individual medalist at the FINA Diving World Cup yesterday, 6 June

Pandelela and Team Malaysia are currently in Wuhan, China, for this year's FINA Diving World Cup.

It was a hard-earned victory for the two-time Olympic medallist in the women's 10m individual platform as she only managed to qualify for the semi-finals after finishing 12th in the preliminary round, The Star Online reported.

The Sarawak-born athlete bounced back in the semi-finals by finishing third with 347.15 points behind China's Ren Qian and Zhang Jiaqi

The 25-year-old continued with her stellar performance and amassed 349.15 after five dives in the final to secure the bronze medal

Gold and silver went to divers from the host nation. 14-year-old Zhang Jiaqi took the top spot with 427.30 points, followed by compatriot Ren Qiang who finished with 403.85 points to take second place, New Straits Times (NST) reported.

Pandelela will have another chance at the elusive gold. She will be returning to the diving board with Cheong Jun Hoong to compete in the women's 10 platform synchronised event.

The duo won silver in the 2016 Rio Olympics and a historic gold at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in April.
