Manchester United Manager Erik Ten Hag Sacked
"We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future," the club stated.
Manchester United announced the departure of Erik ten Hag as manager of the club on Monday, 28 October
According to the New Straits Times, the club has sacked their manager following its poor start to the season.
United fell to the 14th place in the league standings after losing their fourth match in nine league games at West Ham on Sunday and have only managed one win in their last eight matches across all competitions.
Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.
"We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future," the club stated.
Former striker Ruud van Nistelrooy who returned to the club as Ten Hag's assistant in July, would now serve as interim manager
According to the club's statement, the search for a permanent head coach is underway.
Ten Hag's tenure at Manchester United quickly went downhill despite a promising debut season
United endured their worst start to a top-flight campaign since 1989/90, with poor results including early exits from the Champions League and losses in the Europa League.
Injuries to key player, ineffective expensive signings, and a lack of clear strategy under the former manager contributed to the team's struggle.
Ten Hag initially received a one-year contract extension after an FA Cup victory, but as the season continued, United's performance declined, leading to his dismissal.
Since Alex Ferguson's retirement in 2013, United has failed to win the Premier League title, with five managers being dismissed.
