The team went into the game knowing that all they need was a win to secure the title. The Philippines suffered a 25-21 loss to Sri Lanka earlier in the day, giving the national squad a chance to go for gold.

A round-robin tournament uses a schedule where each participant plays every other participant once. It is often said to be the fairest way to determine the champion among a known and fixed number of participants.

Although team Philippines and Malaysia were tied on six points, the latter possessed a higher score difference which gave them the upper hand

Favourites Sri Lanka finished second while Singapore and the Philippines were tied at third.

However, the team will remain in Division One next season as the Malaysian Rugby Union (MRU) had decided not to challenge the promotion last year

To earn the promotion, the Division One champion would have to compete the last placed team in the Top Tier division. The team was relegated from Division One back in 2011 and spent four seasons in Division Two before earning a promotion last year.

Well done, guys! Can't wait to see what's in store for Malaysian rugby!
