German Team Slams Sexists In Viral Video Ahead Of Women's World Cup

24 countries will be competing against each other in the eighth instalment of the international tournament.

The United States women's team is the incumbent world champion, having won the World Cup three times in the past. Germany follows with a two-time record of the title.

"We play for a nation that doesn't even know our names," the video began, before showing the players of the German team – who has been crowned champions of Europe eight times and won the World Cup twice.

The video, produced by Commerzbank and uploaded by DW Sports, featured the players and manager Martina Voss-Tecklenburg.

Moreover, Mensxp reported that the team was given a tea set after winning the 1989 European Championship for the first time. 

"We haven't just fought against opponents, we've fought against prejudice," the players said in the video. 

The women then highlighted a few sexist comments they have been told, including "women are just there to have babies", "they belong in the laundry room", and "it's like watching amateurs in slow motion". 

"You know what... We don't have balls, but we know how to use them," the women said. 

"You don't need to know who we are... You just need to know what we want," they added.
