Education Ministry Plans To Make Silat A Co-Curricular Activity In Schools
It is a way to preserve the traditional heritage.

The Ministry of Education (MOE) is said to be considering to make Silat, the indigenous martial arts form, a part of schools as a co-curricular activity
The Ministry also intends to make Silat an elective credit course in universities as well as in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) so that students could be given certificates to advance their careers in the related fields.
According to a report in Malay Mail yesterday, 30 November, MOE said that it is a way to preserve the traditional heritage.
Education Minister Maszlee Malik added that the promotion of silat would be carried out globally through the Malaysian Education Division
Maszlee explained that MOE would be collaborating with the Malaysian National Commission for United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) "to gazette silat as a world historical heritage".
"In the effort to instil interest among students, we also encourage schools to establish silat clubs with a target of 5,000 clubs by next year," he told reporters yesterday.
The Education Minister was attending the prize-giving and closing ceremony of the 10th International Silat Championship and Silat Seni Asli Open Championship 2019 at the University Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM).
