National men's squash player Ng Eain Yow has claimed his first World Tour title by defeating Switzerland's Dimitri Steinmann at the inaugural USD50,000 German Open 2024 in Hamburg on Sunday, 7 April

Ng started strong and dominated the first half of the match. Steinmann fought back in the first set, forcing a tie-break, but he eventually lost. The second set was close, with Ng ultimately edging out Steinmann.

The third set was another tight battle that went to a tie-break, which Steinmann won. However, Ng dominated the fourth set as Steinmann appeared exhausted, winning the match in four games.

The fourth-seeded Ng defeated sixth-seeded Steinmann 12-10, 11-8, 10-12, 11-3.

After bringing glory to Malaysia just days after Sivasangari Subramaniam's triumph at the 2024 London Squash Classic, Ng expressed happiness at winning the title for his country

"It was a big relief to get through today," PSA World Tour quoted Ng as saying.

"I think I played amazing all week so I was happy to pull through it. The final is always different. There's always some added pressure, there were different people messaging all day about my win [at the semis] so for me I knew [the final] was going to be tough, especially against [Steinmann].

"He was just firing it in from everywhere and he wasn't missing much, so I had to dig deep — keep running, keep getting all the balls back and sticking to my game plan and I think I did that. Just happy to get the title this week," he said.
