National shuttlers Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik's long wait for a World Tour title is over, at last. The duo clinched the men's doubles title at the Denmark Open badminton championship in Odense, Denmark.

They defeated Indonesia's Shohibul Fikri-Bagas Maulana in straight sets, 21-13, 21-17.

The world number four pair were playing in their seventh World Tour final.

They also won USD62,900 (approximately RM300,000), and chalked up 11,000 BWF points, moving to the top spot in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) ranking.

Soh said he will never forget the day he won his first World Tour title

"It's really special for us, we've been partners for five to six years but this is our first World Tour title," the 25-year-old was quoted as saying by New Straits Times.

Meanwhile, Chia said that he and Soh will take some time to enjoy this moment.

"It's our first World Tour title, and we hope we will go on to win more in the future. Next up is the French Open for us," Chia said.

Winning their maiden World Tour title has only fuelled their appetite, with Chia saying he and Soh are now looking for more momentous glories

"Our long partnership has finally clinched a World Tour title. Of course, we look forward to winning more titles," a Bernama report quoted him as saying today, 23 October.

The pair is scheduled to return to the court in the French Open 2023, which will be held in Rennes from tomorrow until 29 October.
