Drama ensued in the first parliamentary sitting since Pakatan Harapan took over as government when Opposition MPs staged a mass walkout at Dewan Rakyat yesterday, 16 July

Members of Parliament from Barisan Nasional (BN) and PAS, led by Opposition leader Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, stormed out of Dewan Rakyat in protest of the appointment of former Court of Appeal judge Datuk Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof as the new speaker.

Only Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin as well as former foreign minister and Kimanis MP Dato' Sri Anifah Aman remained in their seats.

It would appear that even the Yang di-Pertuan Agong found the whole situation amusing, judging from his cheeky remark in Parliament today

Shortly before delivering his opening speech in Parliament, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V had the MPs roaring with laughter when he said, "Ladies and gentlemen, please sit down and don't run away."

That's the face of a King who knows he nailed the joke. ;)

The statement is believed to be in reference to the opposition MP's dramatic walkout yesterday.

In case you're wondering how MPs from both sides reacted to the shade, here's what it looked like at the Pakatan Harapan MPs' bench:

Meanwhile, on the Opposition bench:

Good to see they're taking the joke so well. :)
