On Wednesday, 12 May, a woman was found hiding in the boot of an e-hailing car at a police roadblock at the Simpang Ampang toll plaza

The ride was booked by the woman's husband, who had not seen his wife in nearly a year.

The 23-year-old woman, who lives in Nilai, Negri Sembilan, was trying to travel to Melaka amidst the nationwide Movement Control Order (MCO) 3.0 without permission from the authorities.

The reasons she did not apply for permission is because she is an undocumented immigrant.

The woman was riding in the back passenger seat.

However, she decided to hide in the car boot a few metres away from the roadblock at the toll plaza in Alor Gajah, Melaka.

According to Alor Gajah district police chief Supt Arshad Abu, investigations showed that the woman had not seen her husband, who lives in Rembia, for about a year, leading her to commit the desperate act.

Both the woman and the driver of the e-hailing car were arrested

The woman will be handed over to the Immigration Department for further action.

The case is being investigated under Sections 6(1)(c) and Section 56 (1) (D) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 as well as Regulation 15 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within Infected Local Areas) Act 2021.
