Warisan Plus held a frog-themed dinner yesterday, 23 September, as a sign to protest against party-hopping politicians who led to the collapse of the Sabah government
The publicity stunt was orchestrated during a campaign event to canvass support from members of the public at a hawker centre in Kota Kinabalu, reported Malaysiakini.
Members of the coalition, which consists of Warisan, DAP, PKR, Amanah, and UPKO, were spotted being served with various frog meat dishes, including a plate of raw bitter gourd cut into shapes that resemble frogs.
Photos posted by Seputeh and Kota Kinabalu Members of Parliament (MPs), Teresa Kok and Chan Foong Hin, have amused netizens online, with some calling the frog-themed dinner the perfect "troll" response to the politicians who defected their parties.
The event was attended by 150 high-spirited party members and supporters, mostly wearing T-shirts featuring Warisan president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal's 'Unity' campaign poster
Other than the two MPs, attendees included Warisan Plus Kapayan candidate Jannie Lasimbang, Likas candidate Tan Lee Fatt, and PKR Api-Api candidate Christina Liew.
Writing on a Facebook post, the Kota Kinabalu MP who is aligned with DAP said they will be using "rockets to take down the frogs".
"This time, DAP will be contesting using the Warisan banner in the Sabah elections. The rockets are loaded on the sailboat and transforms it into a warship and an aircraft carrier," Chan said, making reference to the logos of both parties.
"Rockets will be used to take down the frogs that love to jump. Warisan is the people's mandate. Sabah will lead Malaysia."
Meanwhile, former primary industries minister Teresa Kok said the reason for the frog-themed dinner is to show their aversion against 'katakrasi' politics
"In my speech during the dinner, I said we feast on frogs to express our anger towards 'katakrasi' politics," Kok said.
"When COVID-19 goes away and tourists return a few months from now, the frog dishes could be made the special dish in Sabah and they could be served to the international tourists," she was quoted as saying by Malaysiakini.
"We can also make frog kuih and frog biscuits."
