A woman from KL recently went viral after she shared snippets from her solemnisation that took place over a Skype call

The Movement Control Order (MCO) can stop people from leaving their homes, but it cannot stop these two people in love from getting married.

On Wednesday, 22 April, Twitter user @theghrack, also known as Lynn, wrote, "Thank god, I successfully got married online at 12pm just now. Thank you Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) for making sure everything went smoothly."

Her post has since garnered over 34,100 retweets and 74,300 likes.

Lynn explained that she was actually scheduled to get married on 4 April.

However, JAIS announced that all marriage ceremonies were to be suspended until the end of MCO.

"We started planning our solemnisation a few months back. We decided on 4 April because we're still university students and we would have been on semester break then. We weren't planning to have such a big ceremony, but we did plan to have an event with close friends and relatives," she wrote.

She also added that they had prepared goodie bags, a photographer, and a mini bridal dais but a month before the event, the COVID-19 situation got worse in the country.

According to Berita Harian, JAIS had initially announced that solemnisations were still permitted to take place under strict standard operating procedures (SOP).

A few days after that, they published a new statement saying that all marriage ceremonies had to be suspended until the end of MCO.

Recently, JAIS declared that couples could apply to get married over video call

On Wednesday, 22 April, a guideline was published on the JAIS Official Facebook page specially for Muslim couples in Selangor who would like to get married during the MCO.

"The online solemnisation also had a few SOPs. We had to test our Internet connection and see whether our voices could be heard clearly," Lynn shared.

"Whatever it is, I'm thankful that it's settled. For now, my husband and I will be doing long distance."
