[VIDEO] National Power Outage Reportedly Caused By Fire At TNB Substation In Yong Peng
The disruption caused a loss of 2.2 billion watts of electricity, which is 10% the demand of Peninsular Malaysia.

Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has issued a statement saying that a fire was the cause of the blackout that hit various parts of the nation this afternoon, 27 July
According to The Vibes, the fire occurred at a main intake power substation in Yong Peng, Johor.
Before the statement was issued, a 26-second video showing blue sparks and flames at the TNB substation made rounds on social media.
However, a check by The Star found that the state Fire and Rescue Department did not receive any distress calls with regards to the incident.

"Many affected areas had their supply restored as early as 20 minutes after the disruption due to continuous efforts by TNB's technical team," said the company.
It added that the disruption started at 12.39pm this afternoon and caused a loss of 2.2 gigawatts (or 2.2 billion watts) of electricity, which is 10% the demand of Peninsular Malaysia.
