Japanese are known for being inherently courteous in many aspects of their lives, such as the common act of students bowing at vehicles that stop to let them cross the road

But it looks like this courteous gesture is not limited to Japanese students. A Malaysian student has recently done the same and it has caught the attention of over a million netizens.

Over the weekend, TikTok user Syed Azzman shared a seven-second dashcam video showing a female student dashing across the crosswalk in front of SMK Kota Kemuning in Shah Alam, Selangor.

The vehicle with the dashcam can be seen coming to almost a complete halt to allow the student to cross the road.

But what surprised netizens was the student's courteous act of bowing at the vehicle after she crosses the road midway.

The student gives a 90° bow to the vehicle while carrying a backpack and holding a red file with both hands

She leaves the crosswalk after expressing her gratitude.

Syed Azzman, who works as a senior real estate negotiator, told SAYS that the dashcam video was taken on 25 June.

"I was surprised and felt it is something new in Malaysia. She has really good manners," he said when asked how he felt about the encounter.

Apparently, it is not an isolated case as yesterday, 26 June, Syed Azzman uploaded another video showing the same act from another person, who bows at his vehicle for stopping after she crosses a junction in the parking lot of Decathlon Shah Alam.

She can be seen helping a man in an electric wheelchair to cross the road.

Syed Azzman said he was driving a Nissan vehicle when these videos were taken.

Thousands of netizens lauded the high school student for her social grace.

"This should be the thing we normalise," read a top comment, to which Syed Azzman agreed.

"She has really good manners," added singer Amsyar Lee.
