A video showing a Volvo sport utility vehicle (SUV) driving in a motorcycle lane on the Federal Highway is going viral

In the one minute and 43-second long video, the SUV is seen taking up almost the entire width of the motorcycle lane as it approaches the Subang exit on the highway.

A group of riders is seen rushing up to the SUV in order to block its path. They are later seen showing the driver an exit through an opening near a bus stop.

One of the motorcyclists in the video can also be heard asking if the driver was drunk.

However, Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said the driver was not intoxicated during the incident, but merely followed the wrong mode on his global positioning system (GPS)

The 53-year-old driver was using Waze at the time while he was on his way to Shah Alam from his office on Jalan Sungai Besi at around 2.30pm on Tuesday, 23 June, reported The Star.

"He had been using Waze to get to his destination, but ended up on the motorcycle lane because the application was set to motorcycle mode," said Nik Ezanee.

The driver was brought in for questioning at 5pm of the same day

The case is currently being investigated under Section 79 of the Road Transport Act 1988 for neglecting traffic directions and signs.

If convicted, he will be fined no less than RM300 or up to RM2,000.

After undergoing tests for intoxication as part of investigations, he was released from the police station. The case has been submitted to the deputy public prosecutor for further action.
