Five vehicles were damaged after being hit by two uprooted trees in George Town, Penang on Saturday, 11 May

According to the New Straits Times, a Perodua Myvi was badly damaged and a newly bought Chery Omoda also sustained some damages during the incident on Jalan Macalister.

Bagan Jermal Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Nazril Hisyam Napiah said he received a distress call at 10.01am about the fallen trees.

Eight fire fighters were dispatched and arrived at the scene 15 minutes later.

"Upon arriving at the location, two trees were found lying across the road, one of which had fallen on the parking area of a nearby building.

"The tree damaged five vehicles and the building fence was also damaged," he said.

No one was injured in the incident

Speaking to the English daily, one of the victims, Annie Chua, expressed gratitude for narrowly escaping the fallen trees after leaving her vehicle just minutes before the incident occurred.

Chua and several other car owners had just reportedly parked at the location to go to a nearby restaurant.

"While inside the restaurant, I heard a loud sound followed by shouting.

"Fortunately, we had just entered the restaurant or we would have been victims," she related.

Meanwhile, car owner Karen Lo revealed that she received the key to her Chery Omoda two weeks ago, but it has now been damaged.

"Following the rain, I stopped here to have breakfast at a restaurant when I heard a loud noise.

"My newly purchased car has some damage to the mirrors," she said.

A photo published by Bernama shows a Toyota Velfire was also damaged in the incident.

Nazril Hisyam added that the trees were estimated to be decades old.
