Union Wants The Government To Double Civil Servants' Salary Increment Next Year
It also called on the government to carry out a review on the public service allowance rate.

To help alleviate the rising cost of living, a union has called on the government to consider giving double salary increment to all civil servants
In a report by Bernama yesterday, the Congress of Union of Employees in the Public And Civil Services (Cuepacs)'s president, Datuk Azih Muda, noted that the increment will greatly help civil servants amidst the rising cost of living in Malaysia.
The union had proposed a list of suggestions and improvements pertaining to civil servants to the government, ahead of the 15th Service Perdana Assembly (MAPPA) that will take place tomorrow, 3 October.
Cuepacs also asked the government to carry out a review on the public service allowance rate
Azih said the government should set the minimum rate for the allowance at RM180, considering the fact that the rate is now set at RM95 for the lowest group.
Cuepacs had also asked the government to consider expanding the time-based promotion to other groups in the civil service.
“The first time the time-based promotion was given was to the implementer group of officers and then to teachers. Now, we are asking for the time-based promotion to be given to other groups soon... hopefully by January 1 next year," he added.
The union's deputy president II Zainal Ismail hoped the suggestions will be included in Budget 2018, scheduled to be tabled on 27 October
"In line with the government's aim to improve the standard of the civil service into world class, we hope the government will focus on the well-being of the civil servants from time to time.
"We are not here to make unreasonable demands but our requests are based on the government's capability, and we are certain that the current leadership is able to fulfil our requests," he said as quoted by NST.
Last month, a microsite was set up for Malaysians to give suggestions on what should be included in Budget 2018
The ideas can be submitted via the #bajet2018 microsite from 4 until 18 September.
The feedback was divided into 14 categories, including the cost of living, housing and urban living, healthcare services, transportation and infrastructure, rural development, and education.
The single most popular suggestion was a call to raise allowances for civil servants.
