Tommy Thomas has resigned from his post as Attorney General

According to a news report, he submitted his resignation letter during meeting interim Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today, 28 February.

Thomas was appointed to the post for a two-year term which was due to end in June this year.

The Edge Malaysia quoted an anonymous source saying that Thomas wanted to resign while Dr Mahathir, who is currently serving as interim Prime Minister, was still in office.

Meanwhile, The Edge Malaysia said that it is now not clear what would happen with the cases which Thomas had pursued during his term

According to The Edge Malaysia report, Thomas had relentlessly pursued prosecutions related to the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal, which are still ongoing.

On the other hand, Dr Mahathir, who resigned as prime minister on Monday only to be appointed as interim Prime Minister by the Agong, has hinted towards a 'Unity Government' void of any party lines.
