Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Ramli Din explained that the money never existed.
Image via Astro Awani“According to police investigation, the ‘money’ was only mentioned by party members but no one had ever seen or received the total sum of RM870,000," Ramli was quoted as saying by The Borneo Post.
Previously, a suspect was accused of not showing up on nomination day with the money entrusted to him by party president Dulli Tiaseh, which led to 84 Usno Baru candidates being ineligible to contest in the 14th General Election (GE14).
Ramli was speaking at a press conference held at the state police headquarters in Kepayan yesterday, 2 May.
On top of that, the supposed suspect who was accused of running away with the money lodged his own report regarding the allegations against him
The Borneo Post reported Ramli as saying that the accused, who was allegedly tasked to take care of the RM870,000, had come forward to lodge a police report.
Earlier this week, New Straits Times (NST) reported that seven Usno Baru candidates demanded the party's top leadership to be held accountable for the unfound RM870,000.
One of them claimed to have borrowed money from a loan shark to afford the deposit for GE14, and four others lost their source of income after leaving their job as teachers.
