The Puppy In That KLM Airlines' Lost & Found Video Is A Fake Marketing Stunt

Sorry to burst your bubble!

Earlier this week, KLM Airlines introduced the most adorable helper in a Beagle named 'Sherlock', who sprints through the airport and returns your lost items. Watch it here:

The lost & found dog featured in a video, however, does not actually work for KLM. The whole video is just an ad campaign.

The video, which dropped on Tuesday, advertised a dog who sniffed misplaced possessions to return the items to their rightful owners. The world welcomed the adorable (if somewhat implausible) service with glee — only to learn on Wednesday that the dog in the ad isn't affiliated with the airline at all. It only appeared for marketing purposes.

The KLM has launched its new Lost & Found team today to help its passengers reunite with possessions they forgot in KLM airplanes at Schiphol [Amsterdam] airport. A real dog, such as seen in the promo film that KLM launched on Twitter today, is not a part of the Lost & Found team. 'The dog is purely used to symbolize the active way in which the team will search for owners and unite them with their lost possessions.'

"The dog is purely used to symbolize the active way in which the team will search for owners and unite them with their lost possessions," a KLM spokesperson Joost Ruempol is quoted as saying in an English translation.

The advertising agency DDB & Tribal came up with the idea for the dog video after hearing about KLM's real lost & found team. The adorable dog element was the advertising agency's creation.

Alex Herwig and Jeroen Thissen, representatives at DDB & Tribal Worldwide, the agency responsible for the ad, also confirmed to MediaBistro that "Sherlock the dog" was only employed for the purpose of the video.

"We were told that the members of KLM’s Lost & Found team sometimes track down passengers before they even realize they’ve lost something. We feel they are a bit like detectives. So to illustrate that KLM goes above and beyond for their passengers, we decided to involve a search dog."
