"The Police Will Not Pay Any Compensation If They Are Involved In A Road Accident"

If you're involved in a road accident with a police vehicle, you can forget about compensation, even if the police is at fault
Because, according to Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, none of the police vehicles in Malaysia are protected by insurance.
"The police will not pay any compensation or vehicle repair cost to a third party if they are involved in a road accident," the Home Minister revealed last week.
Zahid Hamidi, who was responding on the matter after DAP Kulai representative Teo Nie Ching asked for clarification, said that there are about 22,000 vehicles owned by the police force, and they are "not protected by insurance”.
However, in such a scenario, third-party claims can be made to the government for the relevant costs or compensation
Still, you shouldn't get your hopes up.
"Every accident involving a government vehicle will be referred to a legal adviser to study the possibility of the government paying for the loss incurred by the accident," Zahid said.
He added that the legal adviser within the police force will take reasonable action to settle the claim or make a payment arrangement with the third party.
What if it was the fault of the third party?
"If the third party is a fault in the accident, the compensation will be collected through the attorney-general and the money will be credited as government revenue," Zahid said, adding that for all other repair or maintenance costs, the police will use the allocation given to the department.
