The Owner And Founder Of 'Jalen Kicap' Has Passed Away

He was 82 years old.

The founder of Jalen Sdn Bhd, Datuk Ab Jalil Long, has passed away at the age of 82

According to New Straits Times, Ab Jalil was pronounced dead at 3.55pm on Tuesday, 18 February. He passed away due to shortness of breath, kidneys and heart complications, and intestine infection.

The burial was held after Isyak prayers at Taman Kebun Teh Muslim Cemetery, reported Berita Harian.

Well known for its soy sauce, Jalen Sdn Bhd also produces other products such as chilli sauce, tomato ketchup with oyster flavouring, vinegar, fermented soybean paste, and fruit cordial

According to Berita Harian, Jalen Sdn Bhd initially started operations on November 1981 as Jalil Enterprise. Its main activity was to supply soy sauce under contract basis for a brand known as Habhal.

In August 1988, Jalen Sdn Bhd was renamed to JALEN and operations on its own by supplying directly to the market.

Since the announcement of his passing, fans from Twitter have expressed their condolences

This Twitter user said, "Jalen Kicap is the main tasting element I had to have with me, in the three long years I was in Morocco. When I came back to Malaysia, I stopped eating it. May Allah bless his soul and may he rest in peace." 

"We surely belong to Allah and to Him we shall return. Just found out the founder of Jalen Kicap has passed away. He is one of the most succesful entrepreneur in Malaysia." Without Jalen Kicap, I don't have an appetite to eat," said another.

"Life doesn't seem perfect if you don't eat rice with kicap, especially Jalen Kicap," said this user.

One user recalled the words to the famous Jalen Kicap advertisement that was played on the radio

"We surely belong to Allah and to Him we shall return. Ok go and buy Jalen Kicap now! If not, we will have to abort this expedition."
