Teen Cyclist Dies On The Spot After Lorry Crashes Into Him As He Turns Onto Main Road

A 13-year-old teen, who was cycling with a group of friends, has died on Persiaran Hamzah Alang in Klang on Wednesday, 7 September

According to Berita Harian, North Klang OCPD Asst Comm S Vijaya Rao said the incident took place at 3.30pm when the Form 1 student from SMK Tengku Idris Shah Kapar turned onto the main road.

"At the same time, a garbage truck driven by a man coming from the direction of Kapar did not have time to avoid and hit the victim," said Vijaya Rao.

"The victim who suffered serious injuries was confirmed dead at the scene of the incident."

The accident was captured by a dashcam from a vehicle following behind the truck, which the footage has gone viral on social media

In a 24-second video, the truck can be seen driving along the road before a group of teen cyclists emerge from a bridge and turn into the road.

The victim was believed to have ridden in front of the truck and the heavy vehicle could not stop in time.

The second video shows the truck driver coming out of his vehicle to check on the victim. Both the victim and his bicycle were run over by the truck.

Vijaya Rao said the victim's body was taken to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) for post-mortem

He said the investigation found that prior to the accident, the victim was believed to have left his grandfather's house on Jalan Nenas, but it could not be ascertained where he was going, reported Berita Harian.

"Thus, the police asked (the victim's) friends who were riding bicycles with the victim, as well as witnesses at the scene of the incident, to come forward and file a police report," he added.

"The investigation is still ongoing and the lorry driver, who is 26 years old and has an address in Kapar, has had his statement recorded."

The case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987 for driving in a reckless manner or at a dangerous speed.
