Tapir Tries To Enter A House In Seremban After Officials Fail To Lure It Into The Jungle

A tapir was spotted in a residential area in Seremban yesterday, 23 July
According to Seremban District Civil Defence Force (CDF) officer Captain Md Fadir Md Nor, the animal was spotted in Taman Lavender Heights around noon, as reported by Berita Harian.
CDF rushed to the scene upon receiving a distress call at 12.30pm
They tried to lure it back into a nearby jungle. However, it entered a resident's housing compound instead.
Personnel locked the house gate and chased the tapir to the back of the compound. They then set a trap and herded the animal into it.
The tapir has since been transferred to a safe location
According to CDF, the tapir was from a nearby jungle, reported Berita Harian.
Tapirs are listed as endangered under the IUCN Red List
According to The Asean Post, habitat loss and hunting are the main reasons why tapirs are going extinct. The IUCN estimated that there were around 2,499 Malay tapirs left in 2014.
