MACC Chief Dzulkifli Ahmad Has Resigned

The Star's Bahasa Malaysia news portal, mStar Online, cited a source who said that his resignation letter was handed over to the Chief Secretary of the Government (KSN) Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa this morning.

"Yes, the letter of resignation was given to the KSN this morning," the source was quoted as saying in a text message to mStar.

He replaced former MACC chief Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed, who helmed the post for about six years from 1 January 2010 until 31 July 2016.

Dzulkifli was caught in a controversy last year when a series of videos that first emerged last October alleged he had an extramarital affair with a married woman.

According to local media reports, Abu Kassim, who was appointed as a specialist integrity consultant at the law faculty of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), is being touted to return as the MACC chief following Dzulkifli's resignation.

"Abu Kassim is touted to be among the candidates tipped for the post, specifically to renew a probe into matters related to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

"It is understood that Abu Kassim could make a return to the commission, seeing that he is still an MACC officer and was among the first people to take charge of the 1MDB and SRC International issues, back in 2016," NST said in the report.

NST cited a source as saying that Abu Kassim did not retire from the commission, but is instead still heading an integrity unit at UiTM.

Prior to Dzulkifli's resignation, the report stated that that the attorney-general (A-G) as well as the MACC chief commissioner "look set to feature new faces soon".
