Nawawi Anuar, the 28-year-old hostel warden who sodomised and molested five tahfiz school students in Perlis last month, has been sentenced to 133 years in jail

New Straits Times reported that Nawawi was sentenced at the Kangar Sessions Court yesterday, 29 May.

On top of the 133-year jail sentence, the 28-year-old will also receive 42 strokes of the rotan.

The former hostel warden was slapped with 29 charges of various sex crimes

According to Sinar Harian, Nawawi's charges were under:

- Sections 377B and 377C of the Penal Code,
- Sections 15(e) and 16(1) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, and
- Section 5(1)(a) of the Film Censorship Act 2002.

The 28-year-old pleaded guilty to 26 counts of sodomising, molesting, and sexually harassing five students aged nine to 15 at Maahad Tahfiz al Quran Ar Raudhah Bohor Mali since early April.

However, he pleaded not guilty to three sodomy charges, which included showing a pornographic film to an 11-year-old victim.

National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK) lawyer Mohd Hapiz Rajali attempted to appeal for a lighter sentence for Nawawi

According to Astro Awani, Hapiz pleaded the judge to consider a lighter sentence against the 28-year-old as he provides for his mother following the death of his father.

Nawawi was arrested on 11 May, two days after he fled to Ipoh when he realised a police report had been made against him for his crimes.
