71-Year-Old Grandma Has 6-Pack Abs, Is Fitter Than You & Holds A Guinness World Record
Sun Minghui isn't your typical grandma.
Sun Minghui isn't your typical retiree. At 71, she's the oldest competitor to take home a medal at this year's National Fitness Newcomers Quality Competition in Wuhan, China.
The former cafeteria worker from Ma'anshan, Anhui province, won third place in the mixed-gender category, out-training people half her age.
According to Chinese news platform Ta Kung Pao, she only started formal fitness training at 67.
"After just over a month of training, I began to see changes. My biceps became visible, and the contours of my lats started to show. I did not lose muscle with age; I gained it. That gave me a huge confidence boost," she said.
Sun follows a strict training regime, working out five times a week for over an hour each session
She eats four to five egg whites daily, with minimal oil, salt and sugar.
Sun believes that no matter your age, you can do strength training or other exercises.
"Moving is always better than staying still."
Sun is no stranger to endurance either. At 60, she cycled over 6,300km across China, setting a Guinness World Record with her team.
“I am 71 years old. Age is just a number, not a limitation. Some people think seniors should just drink tea and go for walks, but I want something different. I want to lift dumbbells and let my muscles do the talking,” she told Jimu News.
Her journey, now shared on social media, is inspiring people across China and beyond.
