Student At A Secondary School In Dungun Tests Positive For COVID-19

The school has been ordered to close for eight days.

A secondary school in Dungun, Terengganu, has been ordered to close until 15 October after one of its students tested positive for COVID-19

The secondary school is Sekolah Menengah Agama (SMA) Sultan Ismail.

According to Terengganu State Health Department director Dr Nor Azimi Yunus, screening tests on the COVID-19 infected student's close contact will be conducted tomorrow morning, 9 October.

However, SMA Sultan Ismail is now the fourth school in Terengganu that has been closed.

The other three are Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kompleks Seberang Takir, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Kompleks Seberang Takir in Kuala Nerus that were closed on 5 October, and K Padang Kemunting that was ordered to close on 2 October after positive COVID-19 cases were detected at the premises.

Meanwhile, Bernama reported Dr Nor Azimi saying that besides SMA Sultan Ismail, the Kampung Paya Resak Mosque in Marang has also been closed until 10 October.

She said that the mosque was visited by a COVID-19 patient on 2 October.

SMA Sultan Ismail and Kampung Paya Resak Mosque will undergo disinfection exercise.

On the national level, the country today recorded 375 new cases and five deaths. There were also five new clusters recorded.

According to the Ministry of Health (MOH), out of 375 new cases, 371 were local transmissions.

This is the eighth day in a row that Malaysia has recorded three-digit figures back to back.

Majority of the cases were recorded in Sabah with 271 new cases, Selangor with 36 new cases, and Kedah with 16. All five deaths occurred in Sabah, and four out of five patients had a history of chronic disease.
