Son Crushed To Death After His Mother's Coffin Fell On Him During Funeral Ceremony

An Indonesian man was crushed to death by his mother's coffin when it accidentally fell on him during her funeral ceremony in Makassar, local police said on Sunday, 17 June
40-year-old Samen Kondorura, along with several other men, slipped on a bamboo ladder while carrying the coffin up onto a lakkian, an ornately carved tower where the deceased is placed before elaborate traditional funeral rites.
Just as the group entered the tower, the bamboo ladder shifted and collapsed sending the men tumbling to the ground, where the victim was crushed by the casket
Bystanders immediately rushed to their aid and Samen was promptly taken to the hospital. However, due to severe head injuries, he later passed away.
Julianto Sirait, chief commissioner of the Tana Toraja resort police, told Agence France-Presse (AFP), that the accident happened because the ladder was not properly reinforced but the family declined to press any charges.
Samen is now resting next to his mother, Berta, the police added.
