"I Attended As A Guest & Sang Willingly" — Siti Nurhaliza Performs For Free At MOH Event
The music icon said that she sang to show appreciation to the Health Ministry staff.
Malaysian music icon Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin has clarified that her performance at the Health Ministry's (MOH) recent Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration was done voluntarily and without payment
In a statement shared via Instagram Story, the award-winning singer explained that she was present at the event not as a booked performer but as a guest who chose to sing out of goodwill.
"I attended the MOH event as a guest, not as an artiste invited to perform.
"I sang because I wanted to show appreciation to the MOH staff, out of goodwill and without any payment," she wrote.
She added that the clarification was necessary to prevent inaccurate reporting, saying, "I do not wish for more people to continue spreading slander when my name is mentioned in news related to my performance at the [Raya open house held at the Health Ministry in Putrajaya].
"As I've explained, I did not ask for any payment. I attended as a guest and sang willingly. I feel this explanation is important so that you do not write, report, or share my name with inaccurate information."
Veteran entertainer Datuk Jamal Abdillah also performed at the same event
As reported by Malaysiakini, he accepted the invitation from the ministry's secretary-general, whom he described as a friend, and received only a small token for his appearance.
"[I received] only a small amount, several thousand ringgit. But I was pleased to be able to entertain the prime minister and Health Ministry staff," Jamal was quoted as saying.
Photos shared online showed both artistes entertaining attendees with several songs, supported by a group of background dancers.
The event has garnered attention online, but Siti reiterated that her participation was purely to honour those working in the health sector, especially during festive occasions.
