Shah Alam Woman Dies From Burn Injuries After Daring Her Husband To Set Her On Fire

The 44-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries after 10 days of treatment.

On 16 February, a 44-year-old woman lost her life to burn injuries after her husband accidentally lit her on fire during an argument

Kosmo reported that the incident happened in Bukit Naga, Shah Alam on 7 February. 

The 44-year-old victim, who spent 10 days in treatment at Hospital Kuala Lumpur, eventually succumbed to a viral infection due to her burn injuries.

The victim's husband had threatened to burn the house down during the feud

According to Berita Harian, the man issued the threat while holding a petrol container.

However, the victim took it from him and poured it on herself during the argument – daring her husband to set her on fire together with their house. 

"If you want to burn the house down, burn me along with it," the 44-year-old said, according to Berita Harian.

Kosmo reported that the lighter ignited the 44-year-old's headscarf, which caused the fire to spread to her body.

Despite the man's efforts to put out the fire, 48% of the victim's body was burnt in the incident. Meanwhile, he suffered minor burns to his hands and feet. 

The woman's husband has since surrendered himself to the police

The Star reported that the 41-year-old surrendered himself following his wife's funeral. 

He will be investigated under Section 304 of the Penal Code for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
