"I See Them As My Own Grandchildren" — Sweet Moment Between Guard & Little Girl Goes Viral
Like grandpa and grandchild.
An adorable video of a security guard holding a kindergartener's hand to help her down the stairs of her school has gone viral on TikTok
The little girl's mother, Nurkasmedah Abdullah, shared the 23-second clip, which captured the sweet moment when she went to pick up her 4-year-old daughter, Eshal Nashwa, from R.E.A.L Kids in Taman Cuepacs, Cheras on 2 January.
In the video, 68-year-old security guard, K. Santharan, reaches out to hold Eshal's hand and patiently leads her all the way to the school gate, where her mother was waiting for her.
Nurkasmedah Abdullah explained that she initially intended to record her daughter's first day of school for as a keepsake but didn't expect to capture such a precious moment.
"I was moved because it looked like a grandfather leading his granddaughter by the hand," she said.
Santharan has worked as a security guard at the school for over five years and enjoys helping the children, especially during the end of the school day when teachers may be busy
"I consider them all like my own grandchildren, regardless of their race," Santharan said in an interview with Harian Metro.
"I lead the students by the hand to their parents' cars and help them cross the road," he said. "I treat all students equally. I don't choose or help only certain students because I also have a seven-year-old grandson. So, when I look at other students, I think of my own grandson."
Santharan also shared that some parents even express their gratitude with gifts of food and drinks.
"As long as I am strong and capable, I will continue to work here," he affirmed.
The video has garnered over 270,000 views on TikTok, with netizens flooding the comments section with an outpouring of appreciation for the guard's kindness
"Respect to this security guard uncle," a user commented, while another said, "So cute. Humanity got no boundaries."
One netizen emphasised the importance of looking beyond appearances and appreciating the good in everyone: "Don't look at the good and the bad in the colour and texture. Look at the heart. God hides good people in various ways."
One parent even shared their own positive experience with security guards at another kindergarten under the same franchise, noting their friendliness and attentiveness to the children. "The guards are all nice, they remember the names of every child and always greet them one by one."
