Jamal Yunos Went For A Haircut But Ended Up In Indonesian Police Custody

New Straits Times reported Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as saying that the fugitive politician had been picked up by Indonesian police after receiving a request for assistance from Malaysian authorities last month. He added that the Malaysian police had been contacted to coordinate matters to bring Jamal home.

"I wish to thank the Indonesian government, especially the Indonesian police, for their assistance," Muhyiddin was quoted as saying by Free Malaysia Today.

Prior to his arrest, the Indonesian police had been surveilling and monitoring him for nearly a month.

According to Astro Awani, Jamal was at a salon in South Jakarta when he was picked up by the Indonesian National Police (POLRI). He was also believed to be hiding in Medan, North Sumatra, before he fled to South Jakarta to avoid detection by Indonesian authorities. 

The report added that Jamal was believed to have used the sea route to arrive in Medan.

"As of tonight (2 July), we don't have full details on his arrest, however we are prepared to go to Indonesia to ensure the process to bring Jamal home proceeds smoothly," Mohd Imran told Bernama.

Utusan Online reported that Mohd Imran left for Indonesia earlier today.

Previously, Bukit Aman police issued an arrest warrant against Jamal after he disappeared from the Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital on 25 May while receiving treatment for his back pain, according to Free Malaysia Today.

The fugitive politician had been charged with at least six offences lately, including breaking crates of beer at the Selangor state secretariat building last October, and for displaying firearm in a viral picture.
