Man Robs Bank Of RM600,000 Armed With Just A Piece Of Paper

According to a report by The Sun, the man entered the bank at 12.30pm and informed the staff that he was a technician from a fire extinguisher company.

Described to have appeared calm and confident, he said that he had been appointed to inspect the serviceability of the fire extinguishers in the bank. He also asked to be allowed into the bank's restricted areas.

However, when he couldn't produce any identification, the manager disallowed him from carrying out any so-called inspections.

The manager had then left for lunch.

This didn't stop the man from leaving though. He continued to remain at the bank's premises where a camera showed him loitering around the place before sneaking through a door behind the bank's counters.

The safe room in the bank can only be opened by the bank manager and the chief cashier, using a personal access code.

So when the cashier walked into the safe room at one point, the man placed a magnet on the auto-lock latch of the door, stopping the latch from automatically locking once the door shuts.

Just minutes after the cashier left the room, the thief was spotted on CCTV footage casually walking into the room.

Stepping in, he proceeded to stuff several wads of cash into his backpack, amounting to RM600,000.

Before 1pm, the man was able to walk out of the bank satisfied with over half a million ringgit in his pocket.

Sources say that he had also stopped outside to have a chat with the bank's security guard, telling the guard that his staff who were supposed to help him with the inspection had failed to show up and that he would return later after fetching them.

The man had apparently also had a conversation with the chief cashier while he was there.

Then at about 2.30pm, the bank manager had returned from his lunch break and was told by his staff that the so-called maintenance person had left.

Suspicious, he decided to check the safe room and, in doing so, found out that RM600,000 was missing.

They were freed, however, after being questioned and cleared of involvement in the case.

The investigators were apparently appalled by the negligence of the bank's staff.

"He neither had an identification card of any company nor was he clad in attire that technicians usually wear. He casually dressed in shorts, T-shirt and slippers. All these should have raised suspicion," sources said.

Both the bank manager and chief cashier have now been suspended by the bank.

The police believe the man to be in his thirties.
