A Staggering Amount Of Money Has Been Seized From Over 1,000 Corrupt Government Officials

All this in just two years.

In a shocking turn of events, Malaysiakini reported today that the authorities have seized a colossal amount of RM171.77 million from 1,307 government and government-linked company (GLC) staff over corruption and money laundering from 2014 till September 2016

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Paul Low made this revelation in a written parliamentary reply when responding to DAP Cheras Tan Kok Wai's question about the statistics of civil servants and GLC staff that are involved in graft cases, as reported by Malaysiakini yesterday, 7 November.

Low also provided the breakdown of the number of officers and the amount of money that was seized in the last two years

1) 2014: RM113.4 million was seized and 225 government staff and two GLC staff were arrested over it.

2) 2015: RM30.78 million seized and 398 government officers and seven GLC staff were nabbed.

3) 2016 (from January till September): In just nine months, RM27.55 million has been seized from 388 government servants and 17 GLC staff who were arrested.

In total, 1,011 government officers and 26 government-linked companies' staff have been arrested between January 2014 till September 2016

Commenting on the issue, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman said 5,778 government officers and GLC staff have been sacked over graft cases from January 2010 till July 2016. Adding to that, she also mentioned that the authorities have taken disciplinary action against 31,263 officers over similar cases of corruption.
