It is believed that the photos were taken at a popular bakery outlet in Mid Valley Megamall in Kuala Lumpur.

A woman, named 'Melon Roux', shared the shocking photos on Facebook on Sunday, 23 October. Her post went viral and has received more than 4,000 shares so far.

"It's a famous bakery in the Klang Valley area, you can recognise it by their logo but (I'm) not going to mention their name."

Melon Roux wrote that it has been awhile since she last visited this bakery. While she was happily choosing her pastries, a friend suddenly shouted.

"I was surprised and asked what happened but he never answered me but keep staring at the tray of bread in front of him," she said.

"When I look towards what he was looking at, I was stunned for a second! I returned all the pastries that were on my tray and told one of the staff about this. Hopefully, they will be more alert of such incident in the future."

Needless to say, the discovery does not sit well with many netizens online who exclaimed their shock and disgust over the horrifying sight

Although the bakery in question was not explicitly mentioned, netizens have speculated that it could be Komugi, a Japanese pastry franchise

A screenshot that allegedly shows Komugi Malaysia responding to the questions regarding the incident on Facebook has surfaced on social media.

Netizens were appalled when Komugi Malaysia had apparently shifted the blame to Mid Valley Megamall's management.

They were also shocked at Komugi's claim which states that the incident is a "known issue" at the shopping centre, suggesting that food contamination is an ongoing problem at Mid Valley Megamall but nothing has been done to resolve the matter.

It is learnt that the reply from Komugi Malaysia has apparently been deleted, although the reason is not known at the moment.

The incident comes just a week after photos of rats found nesting in a tank of dried chillies went viral

Photos taken at a Giant supermarket in Kuala Terengganu surfaced on social media last week showing rats nesting inside a tank of dried chillies. Netizens were outraged, criticising the management’s lack of monitoring and carelessness.

Following the incident, GCH Retail Malaysia Sdn Bhd issued a public apology and assured customers that the management has taken steps to ensure the incident will not happen again.

"We would like to assure our customers that we are taking all necessary corrective actions to prevent history from repeating itself in any of our stores," Giant said in the media release.
