Rapid KL Staff Helps Pregnant Woman Deliver Baby In Puchong Prima LRT Station

In a Facebook post published today, 9 November, Rapid KL said the incident happened when 32-year-old Shahira Nurdiyana Rauf, who works as an operation staff, was resting at the station.

At about 6.30pm, she heard her colleague screaming for help, which prompted her to rush to the scene to find out what was wrong.

She learnt that a 36-year-old heavily pregnant woman was experiencing intense pain near the ticket counter.

Without wasting time, she and a cleaning crew supervisor took the woman to a treatment room at the station as they waited for a medical team to arrive.

That is when Shahira, a mother of two who recently returned to work from her maternity leave, took control of the intense situation.

Seeing that there was no other option, she used her recent childbirth experience to deliver the baby.

Her timely role as a midwife had helped make the delivery a success.

The mother and newborn were rushed to Serdang Hospital once the medical team arrived.

To celebrate Shahira's courageous and life-saving response, Rapid KL said its parent company — Prasarana Malaysia Berhad — held a mini celebration at its headquarters in Menara UOA, Bangsar, reported New Straits Times.

The group's chief operations officer Datin Norlia Noah handed over a token of appreciation on behalf of the company and lauded her bravery.

Talking about Prasarana employees' skills, Norlia said all Prasarana frontliners go through training to face critical situations and know basic medical aid.

Although acting as a midwife is not part of the rail operations staff's duties, Norlia said the skills acquired through the training will definitely come in useful for commuters one day.
