"To Protect The Baby" — Father & Son Fight Off Armed Robbers In Viral CCTV Footage
They were alerted to the two intruders by their home surveillance system.
A man and his 60-year-old father bravely confronted two armed assailants who broke into their home on Tuesday, 17 December, in Muar, Johor
CCTV footage of the incident has gone viral on social media, showing the two robbers armed with machetes breaking into the home in Taman Sri Treh.
In the video, one of the robbers can be seen waiting inside the compound as the house gate opens, while the other reverses a white Perodua Myvi into the driveway.
However, two minutes later, the 34-year-old homeowner and his father arrive separately in a car and motorcycle, rushing into the home to confront the intruders.
A violent struggle ensued as the father and son attempted to stop the robbers from fleeing in the Myvi. Despite their efforts, the suspects managed to escape in the vehicle.
The homeowner revealed that he and his father rushed home immediately after being alerted to the break-in by their home surveillance system
A family member told Harian Metro that they rushed home and fought back to protect the homeowner's three-month-old son, who was at home with the maid.
"When we arrived home, we saw that the robbers were already inside, so we fought back because we were worried the robbers would harm the baby," they said.
Both father and son suffered slash wounds to their hands and are currently receiving treatment at a private hospital.
The baby and the maid, who were sleeping in the living room when the incident happened, were not harmed.
The police have launched an investigation and are currently looking for the suspects
Muar deputy police chief Supt Muhammad Aidil Roneh Abdullah said a car, believed to have been used by the suspects, was found abandoned in Jasin, Melaka.
According to Bernama, the case is being investigated under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for armed gang robbery.
