Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for Batu P Prabakaran has promised free bus services for impoverished communities in Kuala Lumpur if his coalition comes into power in the 15th General Election (GE15)

As reported by The Vibes, the Batu candidate stated that despite the free bus services at present, it only serves affluent, tourist-focused districts of the city, as opposed to the services he mooted previously, which were aimed towards helping the poorest communities.

"[The federal government] have free bus [services] here in KL. It's very colourful," he said in reference to the Go KL City Bus services, which are operated by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

According to Prabakaran, he had initiated such a service during PH's brief period in power, though it was shelved following the 2020 Sheraton move that saw the collapse of the PH government

Speaking at the Batu Harapan Mega Rally in Taman Dato' Senu earlier today, 16 November, he noted that there were conversations to commence a service for the Kampung Batu community, with the help of the then Federal Territories minister, Khalid Samad.

"The bus service was to help the poorest communities here [in Batu]... the people of Kampung Batu, many of whom were under the B40. But when they came into power, they shelved it," he said.

Prabakaran went on to state that the service would be extremely helpful for poorer communities throughout KL.

As of present, the Batu parliament seat has the most contention in candidates, with a total of 10 contenders fighting it out for just over 110,000 voters.

Among them include Prabakaran's former mentor, Chua Tian Chang, or more popularly known as Tian Chua, who is running as an independent following Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR)'s decision to field Prabakaran instead.

Other candidates joining the race include Wan Azliana Wan Adnan of Pejuang, Azhar Yahya of Perikatan Nasional, Nathan Pillai of Warisan, and Datuk A Kohilan Pillay of Barisan Nasional.
